Google+ Business Pages: What do I think?

Let me start this post off bluntly, I dislike it. You might be wondering POR QUE?!?! Well it’s simple, it just sucks. Let me list the reasons why it sucks! But, before I begin, I want to say that I do know that it really depends on what you’re used to. I’m outlining the reasons why I think it sucks dick. Now, I shall proceed.
6.) Unnecessary restrictions - This isn’t a huge complaint, it’s just irritating. All profile images have to be a perfect square. That means you must crop your image upon upload. Facebook doesn’t have you crop it. Facebook gives you an option to do so, but you don’t have to. Also, there’s a restriction to headlines as well. Headlines can only be 10 words long. Again, not a huge complaint, just irritating and unnecessary.
5.) Confusing navigation - To get to your business page is.. well it’s confusing and not obvious at all. Below your name, you should see a drop down list. Click it, and you can act as your Business Page. It doesn’t sound confusing, because I just told you how to do it. For the longest time, I was searching around, trying to get back to my page to edit it. I tried typing it in the search bar, but that did nothing. So finally, I just looked up a tutorial. There’s a lot of tutorials on how to switch from your Business Page and back. Pathetic, right? Also, I would love the ability to have my followers or circle-ers(?) displayed on my Business Page, similar to the “…like this” section.
4.) Uncustomizable URLs - This is just a complaint that bothered me for one specific reason, the URLs are way too long for Business Pages. Not only is it under the subdomain of plus.google.com, it has an unbelievable amount of numbers following the forward slash, as this picture shows:
I don’t mind the plus.google.com subdomain thing. What I do mind is the numbers. No one is going to remember it, unless they memorized the “115654462822313619695”. I’d like to customize it to just “plus.google.com/gamingfortwo”… Unfortunately, dreams don’t come true.
3.) Business Pages are boring to look at! -
Of course, you have your standard profile picture. Then you got your page title and headline. You also have your “Circles” area, with who you’re following. And finally you got the shit that’s supposed to matter, the tabs. There are 4 tabs: “Posts”, “About”, “Photos”, and “Videos”. Mostly everything is ghost white, which is disgusting to look at, and hurts your eyes after awhile. Not to mention the set up is stolen straight from Facebook.
2.) Lack of apps! - Google owns a good majority of the internet. With popular sites such as YouTube and Blogger (blogspot.com), you would think that you would be able to sync an account to your Google+ Business Page, let alone personal page. Trust me, you can’t. Having my own webshow, I wanted it to be an option to click on to make the page exciting. Unfortunately, all you can do is upload and share videos… That’s it. Google+ is “supposedly” better than Facebook, yet Facebook has these amazing apps to display content on your fanpage. This is not the case with Google+ Business Pages, though.
1.) Business Page administration system - This is probably the worst thing about the Business Pages. There’s an inability to add multiple admins. As you know, more than just me runs Gaming For Two. Andrew and Chris do as well. Whatever profile the Business Page is created under, it has only belongs to that profile. The least Google could’ve done was allow you to choose a page type at the beginning of creation of a profile, period. It would’ve been nice to have a drop down list with the option to choose either “Profile Page” or “Business Page”. The drop down list option eliminates the confusing navigation to actually find your Business Page. But I digress.
And those are the reasons why I don’t like the new Google+ Business Pages. I do understand that Google+ is still in Beta mode. Hopefully it can change as time passes. As of right now, I’m sticking with Facebook, Tumblr, Youtube, and Blip to promote Gaming For Two. It might not be that effective, but it gets the job done at the end of the day!
Reblog and share this post, I would be truly grateful!
